The Plitvice Lakes National Park, located halfway between Zagreb and Zadar, is one of the

major tourist sites in Croatia. It is a group of 16 lakes, fed by f iumi Bijela and Crna Rijeka Rijeka (White River and Black River), underground springs, connected by waterfalls that flow into the river Korana. The wealth and the splendor of the water, the sounds made by the waterfalls, the strength and the power of nature, make it one of the most beautiful places in the world. he area was declared a National Park in 1949, has undergone several times expansion of its boundaries, now covering an area of over 300 square kilometers, which gives him the status of one of the largest national parks in Europe, while, because of its unique flora and fauna, UNESCO named him World Natural Heritage in 1979. The lakes can be visited along a well-marked network of trails and 18 km of walkways. The environment is really impressive: the formation of gypsum and rearrangement of the river bed, creating the footsteps of the famous 16 lakes, resulted in a magnificent natural architectural phenomenon immersed in unspoiled nature, surrounded by thick forests inhabited by beautiful animals and very rare plant species.
