the country. The lake is actually situated on the territory of three countries: Germany, Austria and Switzerland, near the Alps. It is a large lake which includes numerous islands on its surface of which perhaps the most popular one is the wonderful Mainau Island. The lake has a picturesque setting and attracts many tourists every year. The Harz National Park is known in Germany as the Nationalparkverwaltung Harz. It is situated in the central part of the country, on the border of three provinces. The national park is mostly forested. It is divided into two parts: the Lower Harz which is covered by deciduous trees and the Upper Harz which is covered by coniferous forests.
