The crescent-shaped island is Moloki

Molokini Island is a crescent-shaped, partially submerged volcanic crater which forms a small

islet found in Alalakeiki Channel between the islands of Maui and Kaho?olawe, part of Maui County in Hawai?i. It is a small volcanic cone also called Caldera were scientists believe Molokini Crater formed about 150 thousand years ago. It rises from 160 feet to 300 feet below the ocean's surface, almost half a mile wide where half the crater appears to be missing. It has an area of 23 acres (9.3 ha), a diameter of about 0.4 miles (0.6 km), and is located about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) west of Makena State Park and south of Ma?alaea Bay. Read more:
