Miyajima Island is a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site located just outside of Hiroshima.

The island is home to the historic Itsukushima Shrine, which was originally founded in the 6th century and has long been one of Japan’s most sacred sites. Even if you have not heard of Miyajima, chances are you have seen photos of the iconic shrine: it’s one of the most photographed sights in Japan, thanks to its magnificent red torii gate, which appears to be floating in the waters of the Inland Sea. The scenery changes dramatically from high tide to low. Onomichi is a quaint port town on the southern coast of Hiroshima Prefecture.
