Trollstigen - the "Troll Ladder" is a dramatic and exciting experience. One of Norways National
Tourist Roads. The road twists through 11 hairpin bends as it climbs up to Stigrøra (858 metres above sea level). The Trollstigen Plateau and the two spectacular viewpoints that provide full overview of the countryside, is designed by Reiulf Ramstad Architects. Everything is built in steel and glass and provides good protection against rough weather. The structure is designed so that it blends in with the surroundings, some parts are carved into the rock, while other parts are built on stone walls. An impressive bridge in natural stone carries it across the Stigfossen waterfall. At the top there is a viewpoint, restaurant and the Trollstigen Road Museum exhibiting photos, models and hand tools from its construction.
