You start from Manali, green and white heaven. Manali to Leh takes 2 days and an overnight stay
at Jispa would be fantastic. I stayed at a riverside camp and loved the freezing cold environment. The next evening you reach Leh. I must warn you, Manali to Leh is not a very easy ride. The roads are bumpy and the altitude jumps are nauseating. But But But. That pure beauty. All it takes to forget your headache, bodyache etc etc is one look out of the window. You would pass numerous green patches, rivers, valleys, snowy slopes, rocks, barren mountains, sandy hilltops, even plains, etc etc. The landscape changes within a matter of minutes. Its just magical !
Once you're in Leh, you can visit the numerous monasteries and other spots in the city and also take day trips or camp over-night at Pangong Lake or Nubra Valley or Tso Moriri. Its such a great feeling to be at the top. You would definitely feel minute in front of the huge mountains and the gigantic lakes.
Then the other half of the journey begins. Leh to Srinagar is not as scenic as Manali to Leh but you get a chance to visit Kargil and Drass. You get a chance to pay homage to our war heroes and salute the bravery of our determined soldiers.
Once in Srinagar, you can enjoy a Shikara ride in Dal Lake and visit the beautiful gardens. You can take day trips down to Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Pahelgam. All 3 are gems of the Kashmir valley and are definitely must-not-miss places. You can enjoy snowy ski slopes in Gulmarg, river valley and apple orchards at Pahelgam and green or barren river-side slopes at Sonmarg.
Although for me Manali to Leh was one trip and Srinagar and surroundings was another trip. I would suggest you to club these two as mentioned above and get LOST in the serenity of the Heaven that is Kashmir and Ladakh.
