The highest ground

How high do you want to climb? More than 60 peaks stand higher than 12,000 feet in Colorado's
Rocky Mountain National Park. Those peaks help qualify this 415-square-mile park, where altitudes range from 7,500 to more than 14,000 feet, as the highest national park in the United States.
The ride along Trail Ridge Road, the highest in any national park, takes you to "the land above the trees," an alpine tundra that starts above 11,000 feet. Trees can't grow here, and plants are often dwarfed; yet animals including elk, bobcats and bighorn sheep roam the high ground.
There are 350 miles of trails throughout the park. The trail to the pristine waters of Alberta Falls makes for an easy hike. For more strenuous hiking, head to Flattop Mountain (at 12,000 feet) or Estes Cone (11,000 feet). More://edition.cnn.com/2014/01/13/travel/worlds-best-ski-runs/
