Finland is also home to one of the most endangered species of freshwater seals in the world, the Saimaa Ringed Seal. The seals live mainly in the national parks of Kolovesi and Linnansaari. Thanks to Finland being one of the most northern countries in the world, its bird population features a number of species rarely encountered anywhere else in Europe, making it very popular with birdwatchers. Finnish cuisine is well known for the inclusion of reindeer meat, particularly in Lapland. However for most Finns, reindeer is exotic fare and it is usually seen in restaurants catering to tourists.
